What Is Cold-Air Diffusion?

The short version: a cold-air diffuser turns fragrance oil into a fine, dry mist and sends it gently around the room. No water, no heat, no flame and no fuss.

How it works

It really is this simple.

1. Add your oil. Pure fragrance oil goes straight into the diffuser, exactly as it comes. Nothing to mix and no water to add.

2. Switch it on. Inside, a little air breaks the oil into a fine, dry mist. No heating, so nothing is warmed up or watered down.

3. Walk away. The scent drifts softly through the room while you get on with your day.

Why cold air?

Heat and water both change a fragrance. Cold air does not. The oil leaves the diffuser just as it went in, so the scent you choose is the scent you get. It is why a hotel lobby smells the same on Friday as it did on Monday.

So, how is that different to a candle?

We have nothing against candles. They look lovely and they have had a good run. But let us be fair about the small print.

A candle needs a match, a flame and someone keeping an eye on it. A Lumiscent diffuser needs a socket or a charge.

A candle smells best when you are sitting next to it. Cold-air fragrance moves through the room, so the hallway gets to join in too.

A candle burns down. Then there is a jar in a drawer and a lingering sense of guilt. There is no wax and no half-used jar with us. Just a bottle of oil you can swap for another whenever the mood changes.

And nobody has ever had to blow out a diffuser before bed.

What about reed diffusers and water-based ones?

Reed diffusers are pretty, but they are very patient. Water-based diffusers need topping up and cleaning, and they dilute the fragrance as they go. Cold-air diffusion skips all of that. There is no water tank to fill and nothing to wait for.

Is it hard to use?

Not at all. Add your oil, pick a setting and leave it to do its thing. We suggest starting low and turning it up until the room feels balanced rather than overpowering. One rule: never add water to your oil. Lumiscent oils are made for cold air and should be used as supplied.
